Maintenance activities in agriculture include maintenance and repair of machines, equipment and vehicles, maintenance of farmyards and buildings, silos, bins, and tanks, maintenance of electrical installations, as well as maintenance of drainage and irrigation systems and roads. Due to lack of preventive maintenance in the past, the company suffered from breakdowns and setbacks. Karel Spiertz was allocated to build a Maintenance Team, responsible for the maintenance of five farms: 50 hectare Organic farm 60 hectare Conventional farm and 3 small farms (3 hectare each). First five teams were formed, each responsible for a distinguished task, including maintaining specific tools and equipment, and cleaning the assigned area. Team leaders had to be trained thoroughly in technical skills as well as leadership skills. Apart from training skills, a very important part was the communication of expectations. To develop a maintenance system, first the key equipment and infrastructure elements that can bring operations to a stop were identified. Than a preventive maintenance plan was developed, and a backup plan for failure, along with a system for register hours and materials to get to optimum cost deriving.

Saudi Arabia

Design, development and supervision of the construction of a 12.2ha glass greenhouses which are climate controlled by a balanced Pad & Fan system and misting system to lower the temperatures at most energy efficient way for optimal growing of roses.

United Arabic Emirates

For this project a pump station, electrical substations and irrigation head controls were built. Reduction of salt levels of desalinated water is achieved by mixing the desalinated water with Treated Sewage water. For the production of various vegetables 71 hectares of agriculture structures were built.
